Wow Charlie! I was fortunate that I never had a broken bone until I was in my 60s, and that was only a small crack in the little finger of my left hand after a car accident. All they did at that time was tape two fingers together and “say you’re on your own.”
I’m also reminded of the story you may know: guitarist Les Paul once broke his left arm I believe in a car accident. Rather than not be able to play for six weeks or longer, less had the doctor set his arm at an angle where he could continue playing guitar, putting his left fingers on the fretboard.
